Executive Chef Ian Matfin
Executive Chef Ian Matfin, from Newcastle, has learned his trade in some of the best — and most demanding — kitchens in Britain, working under Terry Laybourne at the prestigious 21 Queen Street, which at the time was the only Michelin starred restaurant in the North East; at Claridges where he learned about grand London formal dining in the true traditions of Escoffier; under Gordon Ramsay at Aubergine; with the inspirational and iconic chef Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. From Le Manoir, Ian went to Gidleigh Park, Devon to work with Britain’s youngest two-star Michelin chef, Michael Caines.
Ian enjoyed a fantastic six years at Gidleigh Park, eventually serving as Michael’s Head Chef in his absence. He has also spent time in the kitchens of Michael Caines at ABode Glasgow and has been Executive Chef at the Michae Caines Restaurant since ABode Manchester opened.
In 2009, Ian appeared on BBC 2 series The Great British Menu.
