Gidleigh Park wins ‘Hotel of the Year’ in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2009
Gidleigh Park hotel has been awarded Gold in the prestigious ‘Hotel of the Year’ category in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2009.
Gidleigh Park was nominated for Gold alongside East Lodge Hotel & Restaurant and The Bildeston Crown. The hotel was previously a Gold award winner in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2008/09 and is now celebrating success in the national awards, whose 20th anniversary falls this year.
Owners Andrew and Christina Brownsword and Sue Williams, General Manager of the hotel are delighted with the award:

The Enjoy England Awards celebrate and aim to promote and reward the very best in English tourism. The awards were presented last night at The National Railway Museum in York when the Gold and Silver winners were announced.
VisitEngland Chairman Hugh Taylor said: “On our 20th Anniversary, we are delighted that there is such a broad range of exciting, high quality holiday experiences on offer in England. Each year the judging proves more and more difficult and the finalists have been chosen for leading the way in terms of innovation through continued investment whilst also maintaining consistently high quality and standards in their field”.
Awards judges commented that the hotel displayed: “an overall faultless wow experience on par with the best of England.”
Gidleigh Park is renowned for its excellent standard of service with staff that continually go out of their way to ensure all guests have a memorable experience. The hotel has a two Michelin star restaurant with Executive Chef Michael Caines MBE at the helm, where guests can enjoy beautiful views of the hotel grounds encompassing 54 acres of grounds and parkland. This year, Michael Caines is celebrating 15 years at Gidleigh Park, where he has retained two Michelin stars since 1999.
